Full biography
Dr. Ellen Vogel completed an undergraduate degree in Foods and Nutrition from the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg in 1975; a Master of Health Education degree from the University of Manitoba in 1985; and a PhD in Nutrition and Metabolism from the University of Alberta 2001. In 2003, she was awarded a postdoctoral fellowship from the Office of the Chief Scientist at Health Canada. She is a fellow with Dietitians of Canada; a past chair of the Dietitians of Canada's Board of Directors; and the recipient of numerous awards for leadership and innovation in dietetic practice. She is a founding faculty member at , having arrived in 2002. In 2010, she was awarded a university-wide peer recognition award for teaching excellence. Ontario Tech University

- HLSC 2820UNutrition for Nursing PracticeThis is an introductory nutrition course to provide nursing students with fundamental knowledge related to food and nutrition. Factors influencing eating behaviours and the identification of nutritional problems are explored. A focus includes individual and public health interventions that can be implemented to prevent and manage non-communicable diseases, the basic principles of clinical nutrition interventions for at-risk individuals related to malnutrition and nutrition support, and nutritional needs at critical stages of the life cycle. Emphasis is placed upon the identification and use of credible nutrition resources.
- HLSC 4998UResearch Practicum IThe research practicum project provides students with the opportunity, with the guidance of a faculty member, to integrate and synthesize knowledge gained throughout their program of study. The project topic will be selected to include some aspects of the student’s area of interest or specialization. Students will work with an ongoing research team working alongside researchers in implementing a phase of their research project. The requirements include a written paper and an oral presentation of the project outcomes. Students registered in this course must register in HLSC 4999U to receive a grade.
