Russell and Coore named Ontario Tech athletes of the week
OSHAWA, Ont. – Abbie Russell (Georgetown, Ont.) of women's soccer and Kairo Coore (Whitby, Ont.) have been named Ontario Tech athletes of the week for the period ending on Sunday, September 29.
Coore helped the Ridgebacks bounce back with two back-to-back wins against the Trent Excalibur. Coore dominated in game one, scoring three goals, including a highlight reel strike from inside the box, and he also picked up another goal on Sunday on a penalty. This is Coore's second athlete of the week award of this season.
Russell has been a consistent member of the Ridgebacks' defence for the last two years, and this weekend, her physicality made a difference as the Ridgebacks had a clean sheet against the Trent Excalibur, winning 2-0.
The Ridgebacks soccer programs will be back on the pitch this weekend as they take on the Toronto Varsity Blues at 1/3:15 p.m. on Saturday when the men's team honour their graduating seniors. The women's team will wrap up at home on Sunday, October 5, at 1 p.m. for their own senior's day.
