Women's hockey drop tight contest vs. Queen's
OSHAWA, Ont. – The Ridgebacks women's hockey team dropped a 2-1 decision to the Queen's Gaels in a tightly contested matchup at the Campus Ice Centre.
Queen's took the lead with a power-play goal by Sophie Hudson late in the second period, assisted by Carys Collie and Sarah Campbell. The Gaels doubled their lead midway through the third when Sophy Aldred found the back of the net at 12:01.
Ontario Tech's lone goal came on a power play as Kayla Welk, with assists from Milana Perri and Julia Jackson, scored at 15:56 to bring the home side within one. Despite a flurry of late chances, the Ridgebacks couldn't complete the comeback.
Ontario Tech goaltender Zoe McGee made 23 saves, while her counterpart, Emma Tennant, turned away 16 shots for the Gaels.
The Ridgebacks will be back in action on Friday, January 31 when they head to Guelph, Ont. to take on the Guelph Gryphons.
