Ridgebacks lose fast paced match up with Voyageurs

The Ontario Tech women's basketball team fell to the Laurentian Voyageurs 79-63 in a high paced match up at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre on Saturday night.

OSHAWA, Ont. – The Ontario Tech women's basketball team fell to the Laurentian Voyageurs 79-63 in a high paced match up at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre on Saturday night.

Emilie Lafond led the charge for Laurentian with a game-high 24 points, complemented by 10 rebounds and five assists. Cadence Pecore added 22 points, including four three-pointers, and pulled down seven rebounds. The Voyageurs' bench contributed 18 points, demonstrating depth in their lineup.

For Ontario Tech, Brianna Morrison paced the Ridgebacks with 14 points on 6-of-14 shooting, while Kaleah Gosse chipped in 11 points and five rebounds. Amarachi Achioso showed defensive prowess with six steals and added nine points and six assists.

The Ridgebacks started strong, holding a six-point lead in the first quarter, but the Voyageurs clawed back to outscore them 26-21 in the opening frame. Laurentian tightened their defense in the second, limiting Ontario Tech to just 11 points while extending their lead. Despite a spirited effort from the home team in the final quarter, Laurentian maintained control with efficient shooting and steady free-throw performance.

The Ridgebacks return to the CRWC on Wednesday to take on the Queen's Gaels at 6 p.m.
