Ridgebacks open regular season in Thunder Bay
THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Ontario Tech women's basketball team opened its 2025–26 OUA regular season on the road Saturday night, falling 68–53 to the Lakehead Thunderwolves at the Thunderdome.
Elliot Cowan led the Ridgebacks with 12 points, hitting four three-pointers while adding three rebounds and three assists. Brianna Morrison and Adra Barnet each contributed seven points, while Amarachi Achioso chipped in six.
Ontario Tech started strong, leading early in the first quarter, but Lakehead responded with a 19–16 opening frame and held a 32–28 edge at halftime. The Thunderwolves extended their lead with a 19-point third quarter and maintained control the rest of the way.
The Ridgebacks shot 31.6 per cent from the field and 30 per cent from beyond the arc, while Lakehead outrebounded them 48–28. Eva Guilera powered the Thunderwolves with a game-high 18 points and nine rebounds, while Ally Burke added 16 points and five assists.
Ontario Tech will be back on the road next weekend, visiting the Western Mustangs in London, Ont., before wrapping up the trip against the Windsor Lancers.
