Coore named OUA East MVP in Ridgebacks OUA awards haul
OSHAWA, Ont. – While the OUA Finals await the Ridgebacks this Saturday, they are taking home an awards haul as the OUA announced their men's soccer award winners on Friday afternoon.
Kairo Coore was named OUA East Most Valuable Player after a season that saw him lead the OUA with 11 goals. He had a number of outstanding performances this season, highlighted by a hat trick on the road against the Trent Excalibur, and a two goal performance at home against the Toronto Varsity Blues that saw the Ridgebacks win 2-1. Coore is the third Ridgebacks to win this award, joining Omar Marzouk and Christopher Campoli.
Kevon Grant picked up his second OUA All-Star nod this season, making the fifth most saves in the OUA with 39 in the regular season. Grant's acrobatic saves kept the Ridgebacks in the OUA Semi-Finals and his two penalty kick saves helped the Ridgebacks reach their first OUA Finals in program history.
Alexander Irwin was also named to the OUA East First Team All-Stars as he anchored one the Ridgebacks backline as their captain. Irwin not only contributed on the defensive end, but he also got involved offensively, scoring eight goals.
Finally, Jack Sears was named as an OUA East First Team All-Star for his role in the Ridgebacks midfield. Sears played an important role in progressing the Ridgebacks attack into the the final third and picked up two assists in the process.
