Ridgebacks drop GTA showdown against Toronto
TORONTO, Ont. – The Ontario Tech women's hockey team fell to the Toronto Varsity Blues 4-1 in a GTA showdown on Friday night.
Kaitlyn McKnight powered the victory for the Varsity Blues with two goals, including a shorthanded tally late in the third period to seal the win.
Ontario Tech struggled to capitalize on opportunities, converting just one of four power plays, while Toronto's Taylor Delahey notched a crucial power-play marker midway through the third period.
The game opened scoreless in the first before Emma Irwin broke through for Toronto in the second. Ontario Tech's Kayla Welk equalized with a power-play goal, but McKnight's first of the night restored the lead.
Goalie Lyla McKinnon stood tall for Toronto, stopping 19 shots, while Zoe McGee made 35 saves for Ontario Tech.
The Ridgebacks will be back in action tomorrow when they take on the TMU Bold on the road before gearing up for a home-and-home series against the Queen's Gaels.
