Ridgebacks open season at Campus Ice Centre

The Ontario Tech men's hockey team dropped their home opener 6-2 to the UQTR Patriotes on Friday night at the Campus Ice Centre.

OSHAWA, Ont. – The Ontario Tech men's hockey team dropped their home opener 6-2 to the UQTR Patriotes on Friday night at the Campus Ice Centre.

Braiden Koran scored his first of the season on the power play in the opening period, assisted by Zachary Marquis and Justin Svenson. Ludovic Dufort added the Ridgebacks' second goal early in the second, set up by Nolan Ling and Duston Hutton.

Despite tying the game 2-2, Ontario Tech ran into penalty trouble in the final 40 minutes. UQTR capitalized with three power-play markers, pulling away for the win.

Ridgebacks goaltender Beckett Langkow made 23 saves in the loss, while William Grimard turned aside 17 shots for the Patriotes.

Ontario Tech will have a quick turn around as they take on the Carleton Ravens tomorrow at the Campus Ice Centre at 7 p.m.
