Ryan Hastings (Stouffville, Ont.) of the men's curling team and Kamelya Brodeur (Laval, Ont.) of the women's hockey team have been named the Ontario Tech student-athletes of the week for the period ending January 22.

Ryan Hastings (Stouffville, Ont.) of the men's curling team and Kamelya Brodeur (Laval, Ont.) of the women's hockey team have been named the Ontario Tech student-athletes of the week for the period ending January 22.

Hastings, a first-year integrated mathematics and computer science student, played a key role in the men's curling team going 3-1 over the weekend at the Brock Invitational. They started off with 9-2 and 9-5 wins over Waterloo and McMaster before splitting the second day with a 7-0 win over York and narrow 7-6 loss to Laurier. Joining the Ridgebacks this season, he has proven as vice that he can compete with the best teams in the OUA, working well with skip Danton Kellington to lead the Ridgebacks to continously improve as they build towards the OUA championship in February.

Brodeur, a second-year communication and digital media studies student, had her best offensive weekend of the season at home for the women's basketball program. She started the weekend with a 15-point performance against the Western Mustangs, just off her season-high of 17 and the team's leading scorer in the game. She also finished with an assist and steal. The following night she dropped 10 against the Windsor Lancers.

This week all basketball and hockey teams are home, with the men's hockey team starting the week on Wednesday with Bell Let's Talk Night against the Queen's Gaels.

The Ontario Tech student-athlete of the week award is presented by Subway located at 2069 Simcoe Street North Oshawa.
