Western spoil Ridgebacks home opener

Ontario Tech Ridgebacks fell to the Western Mustangs 85-75 at CRWC on Friday night.

OSHAWA, Ont. – Ontario Tech Ridgebacks fell to the Western Mustangs 85-75 at CRWC on Friday night for their first loss of the season.

Ontario Tech's Zubair Seyed led the Ridgebacks with 31 points, shooting 11-for-18 from the field and 3-for-7 from beyond the arc. Ayub Nurhussien added 15 points and 7 rebounds, and Tombe Pitia contributed 10 points with nine rebounds. 

Western controlled the paint, scoring 56 points compared to Ontario Tech's 44. They also capitalized on turnovers, scoring 27 points off Ontario Tech's 24 turnovers. Western's Matteo Zagar led his team with 21 points, 12 rebounds, and five steals. Lucas Sheets added 15 points, including three three-pointers, before fouling out. Western's strong defensive showing, with 16 steals and a shooting percentage of 55.2, helped secure their victory.

The Ridgebacks move to 2-1 on the season with the loss, and will look to bounce back quickly tomorrow afternoon when they take on the visiting Windsor Lancers.
