Ridgebacks lacrosse enters new chapter with Lam, Prince leading program
OSHAWA, Ont. – The Ontario Tech Ridgebacks women's lacrosse program is entering a new chapter, as Dr. Tessa Lam and Tyra Prince have been named co-coaches.
Lam, a former Ridgebacks student-athlete and long-standing member of the program's coaching staff, steps into the role after years of contributing to the team's growth. Since returning in 2017, she has played a key role in the program's development, including helping guide the Ridgebacks to a historic OUA silver medal finish in 2025.
"As a long-standing Ridgeback, this program has shaped my experience as both an athlete and a coach," said Lam. "I'm looking forward to continuing to grow the program, leading it forward, and maintaining a culture where athletes can compete at a high level and feel supported."
Prince, who served as an assistant coach with the Ridgebacks last season, steps into the co-coaching role while bringing extensive NCAA Division I playing and coaching experience. The Whitby native served as an assistant coach at Eastern Michigan University following a stint at Central Michigan, where she helped lead the program to its first Mid-American Conference championship and NCAA tournament appearance.
"The opportunity to step into this role with the Ridgebacks means a lot to me, especially after being part of the program last season," said Prince. "Lacrosse has shaped so much of my life, from competing and coaching at the NCAA level to now helping athletes pursue opportunities of their own. I'm excited to continue building on the foundation that's already here and to work alongside Tessa to create an environment where our players are challenged to compete, grow, and reach their full potential."
Together, Lam and Prince bring a unique blend of Ridgebacks tradition and high-performance experience to the program. Lam's deep connection to Ontario Tech and longstanding leadership within the local lacrosse community complements Prince's national and international coaching background, positioning the Ridgebacks for continued success.
