Ridgebacks celebrate International Night with decisive victory

The Ontario Tech Ridgebacks earned their first OUA victory under head coach Hugo Boisvert on Saturday, January 24, defeating the Algoma Thunderbirds 75–57 at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre.

OSHAWA, Ont. – The Ontario Tech Ridgebacks earned their first OUA victory under head coach Hugo Boisvert on Saturday, January 24, defeating the Algoma Thunderbirds 75–57 at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre.

The game was played as part of International Night, held during OUA Anti-Racism Awareness Week, celebrating the cultures, backgrounds, and shared values that bring our community together.

The Ridgebacks used a balanced offensive effort and sustained defensive pressure to pull away after a tight opening quarter, outscoring Algoma 20–9 in the second to take control at halftime. Ontario Tech continued to build its lead in the second half, pushing the margin to as many as 21 points before closing out the win.

Brianna Morrison led all scorers with 14 points, while Rosheen Antonroy added 15 points and knocked down three shots from beyond the arc. Elliot Cowan and Adra Barnet each contributed nine points, as the Ridgebacks shot 43.3 per cent from three-point range and forced 20 Algoma turnovers.

Defensively, Quincy Okubasu anchored the paint with eight rebounds, four blocks, and four steals, helping limit Algoma's second-chance opportunities. Ontario Tech also capitalized on turnovers, scoring 26 points off giveaways.

Ontario Tech will now hit the road for its next contest, visiting the Toronto Varsity Blues on Friday, January 30.
