Ridgebacks battle on International Night

The Ontario Tech Ridgebacks men's basketball team dropped an 88–83 decision to the Algoma Thunderbirds on Saturday, January 24, at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre.

OSHAWA, Ont. – The Ontario Tech Ridgebacks men's basketball team dropped an 88–83 decision to the Algoma Thunderbirds on Saturday, January 24, at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre.

The night served as a celebration of culture, inclusion, and community, as International Night highlighted the values of respect and unity as part of the OUA's Anti-Racism Awareness Week.

On the court, the Ridgebacks stayed within striking distance throughout, battling through multiple lead changes and ties over four quarters. Ontario Tech trailed by one point after the first quarter and remained within reach through the middle frames, but Algoma's efficiency from the free-throw line down the stretch proved to be the difference.

Keon Baker led the Ridgebacks with a game-high 28 points, adding five assists and six rebounds. Caleb Kassa chipped in 14 points, while TJ Richards added 10 points and four steals. Ontario Tech held a 50–26 advantage in points in the paint, but Algoma capitalized at the line and on second-chance opportunities late to secure the win.

The Ridgebacks will now hit the road for their next contest, travelling to Toronto to take on the Toronto Varsity Blues on Thursday, January 30.
