Boisvert named new Ridgebacks women's basketball head coach
OSHAWA, Ont – A new era of Ontario Tech basketball is officially underway, as the Ridgebacks are proud to announce the appointment of Hugo Boisvert as the new head coach of the women's basketball program.
Boisvert will begin integrating himself with the team over the coming month as they begin preparations for the 2025-26 OUA campaign.
"I'm honoured and excited about the opportunity to lead the Women's Basketball program at Ontario Tech and be a part of the Ridgebacks community," said Boisvert. "Ontario Tech is a young program with tremendous upside. I believe everyone here is moving in the right direction toward building a winning culture, and I'm excited to lead this program to new heights."
Boisvert started his coaching career in Quebec, where he gained experience at Collège Laval before joining the collegiate ranks with the Laval Rouge et Or as the lead assistant for the women's and men's basketball teams in 2019, supporting the head coaches in tactical decisions, practice planning, and recruitment. In 2020 and 2022, Boisvert played a critical role in coaching the women's team to conference championships and final eight appearances.
He also began coaching with the Quebec provincial team in 2019, taking the helm of the U14 Boys team, and serving as an assistant coach for the U17 team that won the national championship in 2022. In 2023, Boisvert took the helm of the Lakehead Thunderwolves women's basketball program, where he led the team to year over year improvements in the standings and reidentifying their team culture.
"Hugo will be an excellent addition to our Ontario Tech basketball program and Ridgeback culture," said Scott Barker, Ontario Tech Director of Athletics and Recreation. "His high-performance coaching style and commitment to accountability and resilience is the perfect fit for what we're building."
Boisvert becomes the third head coach of the women's basketball program, and he says Ridgeback fans can expect a passionate and dedicated head coach who is fully committed to building a culture of excellence and class.
"I will give everything I have to support our student-athletes, both on and off the court, and will relentlessly pursue growth — as a coach, as a team, and as a program," said Boisvert.
